Title
P044100, Replaced EVAP Canister Control Valve
Complaint
The customer states the check engine light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code P044100 – EVAP System Incorrect Purge Flow. Used the scan tool to monitor live data and found that the EVAP canister control valve parameter was not within specifications. Used the scan tool to command the EVAP canister control valve on and found that the valve was inoperative. Performed a visual inspection of the EVAP canister control valve and found no obvious faults. With the key on and engine off, I used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage at the EVAP canister control valve and found that voltage was present. Used the multi-meter to check for the presence of a short in the EVAP canister control valve circuits and found that no shorts were present. Used a set of fused jumper wires to repeatedly apply voltage and ground to the EVAP canister control valve and found that the valve was inoperative. These test results verified that the EVAP canister control valve was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the EVAP canister control valve, cleared codes, performed a road test, and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
