Check Engine Light Is On, U2016, B1342, Replaced Fuel Injector Control Module
Complaint
The customer states the check engine light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found codes: U2016 – Signal Link Short to Ground (Non SCP); B1342 – GEM Defective; P0264 – Cylinder 2 Injector Circuit Low; P0267 – Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Low; P0270 – Cylinder 4 Injector Circuit Low; P0273 – Cylinder 5 Injector Circuit Low; P0276 – Cylinder 6 Injector Circuit Low. Performed a visual inspection of the fuel injection system and detected no obvious faults. Performed a visual inspection of the fuel injector control module and found no obvious faults. Disconnected the fuel injector control module connectors, visually inspected the connectors and terminals and found no obvious signs of loose pins, corrosion or damage. Visually inspected the fuel injector control module wiring harness and found no obvious signs of damage. Used a multi-meter to check for the presence of shorts or opens in the fuel injector control module wire circuits and found that none were present. Used the multi-meter to check for the presence of power and ground at the fuel injector control module harness connector and found that both were present. The result of these tests verified the fuel injector control module was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the fuel injector control module, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
