Once again an intermittent issue leads a technician on a frustrating journey to find the actual issue. And once again the SureTrack Community comes to the rescue. SureTrack community member christopherjcef had a 2011 Dodge Journey in the shop that had an intermittent problem with the transmission. After trying several repairs, they posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member jamesbellam and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2011 Dodge Journey Express 2.4L

Title
Vehicle going into limp mode intermittently, reconnected harness plug.

Complaint
The vehicle will randomly jump into limp mode and show a P0765 code. It seems to happen when sitting at an idle or going slow, such as turning, slowing for a stop sign, etc.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
We followed the whole chart. We checked the wires and the transmission simulator said that it was getting the correct signals so we replaced the solenoid pack with a used one. Same issue so we replaced it with a new one. Same issue. When viewing the live data graph it was showing that immediately prior to going into limp mode, the actual line pressure PID was erratic. So we dropped the pan, changed the pressure sensor and harness and changed the filter and fluid. Seemed to be fine for the first test drive and then went into limp mode on the next drive. The only part that we have not replaced is the PCM. According to the Chrysler dealership, while they had it hooked up to the transmission simulator, everything was working properly, but if it was a sporadic problem (which it is) the PCM could be bad. Does anybody have any idea if that might be the case or if there is something else to check? The PCM is very expensive so I want to be sure that it is bad before I replace it.

Be sure you check the PCM connector, terminals and wiring harness for contact resistance, corrosion etc.

Cause
A main wiring harness plug was loose.

Correction
Secured main wiring harness plug connection. Vehicle operates as it should.
