Title
P227900, Replaced Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve
Complaint
The customer states that the check engine light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code P227900 – Intake Air System Leak. Using a smoke machine, induced smoke into the intake system, observed the vehicle’s positive crankcase ventilation valve, but did not detect any smoke exiting the positive crankcase ventilation valve. Attached a vacuum gauge to the positive crankcase ventilation valve vacuum hose, ran the engine and found the specified amount of vacuum was measured on the vacuum gauge. Attached a vacuum pump to the positive crankcase ventilation valve and tested the valve by applying vacuum. The positive crankcase ventilation valve leaked and did not retain the applied vacuum, which verified the valve was defective. These test results verified that the positive crankcase ventilation valve was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the positive crankcase ventilation valve, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified that the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
