SureTrack Community Fix: Blowing Hot Air

exhaust gas recirculation valve, SureTrack Real Fixes

Continuing our theme of air conditioning issues, here’s a problem with the A/C cutting off. SureTrack community member meadows1 had a Cadillac Escalade in their shop where the A/C would cut off after driving a while. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member Poppyshop and others, they were able to resolve the issue.

The following Real Fix summarizes the interaction between them in the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV 6.2L

Title
A/C blowes hot air after driving, replaced compressor.

Complaint
Customer complains that A/C starts blowing hot air after driving a while.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Checked A/C system and recharged A/C system. On test drive, after about 10 miles A/C starts to blow hot air and compressor turns off. On scanner, A/C request and A/C relay are saying that A/C compressor is on. A/C high pressure sensor drops to 90 psi, evaporator core sensor says 25 degrees. Turn vehicle off and then restart, compressor starts to run again until you drive it approximately 10 miles. Replaced A/C high pressure switch, same problem. Could it be the A/C controller module?

Best Answer from Community Member Poppyshop
If you have power and ground, when compressor stops working, clutch is failing.

Cause
Spent more time testing compressor and found that clutch was failing.

Correction
Replaced A/C compressor and performed road test and air conditioning works as it should. No longer blows hot air.

Correction
Replaced intake manifold gaskets. After long enough drive, fuel trims relearned and vehicle operates as it should.
