SureTrack Community Fix: Interrupted Cruise

exhaust gas recirculation valve, SureTrack Real Fixes

Cruise control is a handy feature to use on long drives, but if it keeps shutting off, it can be frustrating. SureTrack community member Qualty1 had a Chevrolet Suburban where the cruise control would disconnect when using the turn signals. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member Ericsautomotive and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
1999 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 5.7L

Title
Cruise control disconnects, repaired short in trailer wiring.

Complaint
Customer complains that cruise control disconnects while driving.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced Test drove vehicle and cruise control works as it should until turn signals are turned on, either left or right. Turn signal will cause cruise control to turn off. It will also turn off if headlights are turned on. Tested multifunction switch, headlight swtich, brake light switch, grounds and connections. All tested ok. What could cause this problem.

Best Answer from Community Member Richard_C Sounds to me like the brake signal is be activated when you turn the other signals on. Check for shorts in the trailer wiring connections.

Cause
Found short in trailer wiring connection causing brake signal to cruise control when lights came on.

Correction
Repaired short in trailer wiring connection. Road tested vehicle and cruise control no longer disconnects when turn signals or headlights are used.
