SureTrack Community Fix: MINI Hesitation

DPF Pressure Sensor

Here’s another case of a vehicle with lack of power and the power of the SureTrack community to come to the rescue. SureTrack community member memohernandez had a MINI Cooper S in the shop that hesitated when taking off from a stop and had several codes. They posed their question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member Richard_C and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2011 MINI Cooper S 1.6L

Title
Hesitates while taking off, terminal 87 shorted to ground.

Complaint
Customer complains that vehicle hesitates when taking off from a stop.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Test drove vehicle and found that vehicle runs slightly rough and hesitates when taking off. Check engine light on and found codes 2C3E, 2D0C, 2D10, 3400, 348F and 37DE short to ground. Clear the codes and start the engine and all codes return all at once. No parts have been replaced.

Looks like terminal 87 (relayed power from 30) is touching the frame somewhere. I’d start by following the O2 sensors wires back toward the ECU. O2 wires are always suspect as they get moved and burn or rub the exhaust and other body parts. You eventually may need to check the wiring of each component that is throwing a code. Most likely, you will find some chafing somewhere.

Cause
Found terminal 87 shorted to ground.

Correction
Repaired short, cleared codes and performed road test. Vehicle runs as it should and codes did not return.
