What do you do with a vehicle that quits running but runs once it arrives at your shop? You try to replicate the conditions. SureTrack community member drdiesel had a Hyundai Sonata in the shop that would stall after driving long distances but then run normally after being towed in. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member DAG1365 and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.
The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.
Vehicle
2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS 3.3L
Title
Intermittent stalling, replaced fuel pump.
Complaint
Customer had vehicle stall after driving long distance.
Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Customer traveling on interstate when vehicle stalled and would not restart. After waiting for tow truck and being towed to local shop, car started with no problems. Customer got back on interstate and drove about 60 miles and it stalled again. Had towed to me and by the time car got here, approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes later, car started and drove off tow truck. Checked for any DTCs and found none present. Checked fuel pressure and it is within specs. Crank and cam sensor signals are all present. Visual inspection turned up nothing out of normal. Car has been running almost 5 hours with no stalling. Has anyone seen any cam or crank sensors and/or fuel pumps shut down after heating up?

Have had both fuel pumps, crank sensors, and connections cause problems. Would need to get it to act up with fuel gauge and scanner/scope on sensors. Also check crank sensor connections. Would also ask customer if vehicle just cut off and lights come on dash, or did it chug off like running out of fuel? Any lights come on, or any codes in all systems?
Cause
Fuel pump quit after running for 4.5 hours. Let cool down for 3 hours and it started right back up.
Correction
Removed and replaced fuel pump. Vehicle no longer stalls.
