You replace a transmission and it has issues, so you replace it again and it still has issues, what do you do next? You come to the SureTrack community and ask your fellow techs for help. SureTrack community member eagletireman1 had a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country in their shop that had a stalling problem after replacing the transmission twice. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member trannyman1 and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

Customer complains that vehicle stalls when coming to a stop.
Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Rebuilt transmission installed in vehicle. After warm up, transmission will stall when stopping at a light or intersection. Vehicle idles fine for about 2 seconds then stalls. Feels like torque converter not releasing. Customer states problem was not there prior to transmission replacement. Second rebuilt transmission to do this. Transmission cooler was replaced when transmission was replaced. No codes present. I have performed quick learn and shifter position relearn and TCC relearn as well. With scan tool on transmission side I have also cleared all adaptives and did idle relearn on ECM. We have driven vehicle 60 miles with no change (manufacturer requested). I have asked manufacturer what I should be checking with no success. Does anyone have any suggestion on what I should be looking for and or testing?

I’ve had couple of these that the TCC solenoid had pintle sticking and causing this. Also had several with converter coming apart and can’t hold converter clutch off. Need to check the signal for TCC solenoid and make sure it isn’t staying grounded when the condition occurs. Also, a plugged cooler can cause this as well. If it had prior converter failure before and had the cooler restricted, these normally have to be flushed with a hot flush machine or have entire cooler replaced. If you think this is a problem, you could bypass cooler to try to duplicate concern.
Cause
The new transmission oil cooler was not flowing. Checked fluid flow first then tried passing air through with no success. Replace oil cooler with another new cooler.
Correction
Replaced transmission oil cooler, test drove vehicle and it operates as it should.
