It’s that time of year again when there are heat waves across the continent and drivers want their air conditioner systems fixed. SureTrack community member jmbbolt had a 2001 Lincoln Continental in the shop that had A/C problems and after they repaired it, it still didn’t work. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member jhirz and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2001 Lincoln Continental 4.6L

Title
A/C compressor won’t come on, repaired faulty pressure sensor wire.

Complaint
Customer complains that air conditioning does not work.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Vehicle is equipped with automatic A/C system. Tested air conditioning and found bad A/C compressor clutch, fuse 34 blown and diode shorted out. Replaced compressor, fuse and diode. Recharged system. A/C compressor now only works with relay bypassed. Control head works on all display settings but A/C compressor will not turned on. The scanner states no codes in A/C system but does set P1460 (ACC Switch Error) in the PCM after running for a few minutes. Refrigerant level is correct. Can run test mode with scanner and passes, but cannot get controller to run self diagnostics. Any ideas? PCM or controller issue? Suspect not getting On signal to PCM, or PCM not sending out A/C clutch ground to relay.

Best Answer from Community Member jhirz
P1460 is for the CCRM which is where the WOT A/C clutch control relay is. Check resistance of coil on pins 22 to pin 24. Should be 130 t0 200 ohms.

Cause
Found purple wire from pressure sensor bad at PCM.

Correction
Repaired purple wire at PCM, A/C system now works as desired.
