We’re constantly being urged to do updates. Updates on our phones, our computers, even our TVs. Even your car needs updates at times. Some newer cars automatically get updates over the air but older ones don’t. SureTrack community member alltune had a Jeep Compass in their shop that couldn’t pass inspection because the fuel monitor wouldn’t set. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member ericsautomotive and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

Won’t pass inspection, update ECM.

Customer states that car won’t pass inspection.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
The vehicle does not pass inspection because the fuel monitor won’t go ready. The customer had the inspection done three times within the last 8 months. Failed every single time for fuel monitor not ready. All the other monitors are ready except fuel. We do not get any code. On the system. The fuel pressure is fine. No driveability issues. Any idea would be appreciated.

Sounds like a possible software issue. Confirm the PCM has all the latest updates.

Contracted a mobile tech to update the ECM and found that it was not on the latest software.

Software update to ECM corrected the issue. After drive cycle, fuel monitor became set and vehicle passed inspection.
