When the check engine light illuminates it could be for any number of reasons. In this case this Toyota Aygo was diagnosed with a throwout bearing fault. This bearing allows the clutch to smoothly operate within the gear box and is essential for proper clutch function.

Vehicle
2010 Toyota Aygo 1.0 1KR-FE Petrol GB

Title
P0810, P0909, P0919, Replaced Clutch Release Bearing, Clutch Kit

Complaint
The customer states the check engine light is on.

Cause
Connected a scan tool and found codes: P0810 – Clutch Position Control Error; P0909 – Gate Select Control Error and P0919 – Gear Shift Position Control Error. With the key on, tried to select a gear and found the gear selector display flashed N. Viewed live scan tool data and found the release fork actuator current data exceeded desired values. Raised the vehicle on a hoist and removed the gearbox to gain access to the clutch. Removed the clutch from the engine and found it was worn. Inspected the clutch release bearing and found it was damaged. These tests verified that the clutch release bearing and clutch kit were faulty.

Correction
Replaced the clutch release bearing and the clutch kit, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
