Title
14355, P242A, P242B, Replaced Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (B1-S3)
Complaint
The customer states the check engine light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found codes: 14355 – Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 3; P242A – Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 3) and P242B – Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 3). With the engine at idle, viewed live scan tool data and found the exhaust gas temperature sensor (B1-S3) data was out of specifications. Removed the engine cover to gain access to the exhaust gas temperature sensor (B1-S3) connector. Disconnected the sensor, used a multi-meter to check for voltage at the connector and found voltage was present. Used a fused jumper wire to bypass the exhaust gas temperature sensor and found the scan tool data changed. These tests verified that the exhasut gas temperature sensor (B1-S3) was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the exhaust gas temperature sensor (B1-S3), cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly.
