Title
C1A20, Replaced Air Suspension Compressor
Complaint
The customer states the air suspension light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code C1A20 – Air Suspension Pressure Increases Too Slow When Filling Reservoir. With the scan tool, commanded the air suspension compressor on and found the vehicle was taking too long to reach specified height. Performed an inspection of the air suspension system, used a spray bottle with soapy water to check for leaks and found no apparent leaks. Disconnected the connector for the air suspension compressor, inspected the connector, terminals and wiring harness and found no faults. Key on, compressor commanded on with the scan tool, used the multi-meter to measure the specified 12 Volt supply and less than 100mv ground at the air suspension compressor connector and found both were present. Disconnected the air compressor air outlet fitting, connected a pressure gauge to the fitting. Used a fused set of jumper wires, applied 12 Volts and ground to the air suspension compressor and found the measured pressure was below specifications indicating an internal failure of the air suspension compressor. These test results verified the air suspension compressor was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the air suspension compressor, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The air suspension light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
