Have you ever seen those people in the drive-thru lane who have to open their door to get their order at the window? More than likely it’s because their power windows are on the fritz. Follow this Real Fix to see how inoperable power windows on this Audi A4 were diagnosed and repaired.

Code 01331, Replaced Door Harness

Complaint
The customer states the power windows are inoperative.

Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code 01331 – Door Control Module, Driver Side -J386- No Communication. With the ignition on and the engine off, operated the driver’s power window switch and found the power window motor did not respond. Inspected the fuses and relays related to the power window system and found no faults. With the ignition on and the engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the driver’s power window motor connector while operating the driver’s power window switch and found voltage was not present. With the ignition on and the engine off, used the multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the driver’s power window switch and found voltage was not present. With the ignition on and the engine off, used the multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the driver’s door control module connector and found voltage was not present. Performed an inspection of the driver’s door control module wiring harness and connector and found the door harness was torn.

Correction
Replaced the door harness, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly.
