You’ve repaired your customer’s vehicle, road tested it with no issues, and park it outside so they can pick it up in the morning. When they do, something isn’t right. SureTrack community member 1Quick6 had a GMC Sierra in their shop that when the customer picked it up the day after the repairs, they found it had no oil pressure. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member dmckemie12 and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2014 GMC Sierra 2500 HD SLT 6.0L

Title
No oil pressure, replaced oil pump.

Complaint
Oil pressure gauge shows no oil pressure.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Truck came to us with power steering pump failure and rotten engine oil dipstick tube. We changed the pump and tube and topped up the engine oil. Road tested truck with no problems. Customer picked up truck in the morning after sitting outside in -12 degrees F. Now low oil pressure light on and dash gauge shows zero pressure. Installed mechanical gauge at port and it shows no pressure. We dropped oil pan for inspection and it was clean. Pick-up tube O-ring is in place, and through the hole we can see that the pump gears are not damaged and do move when the crank is turned. Is this a common issue?
