SureTrack Community Fix: Where’s The Air?

DPF Pressure Sensor

You’re trying to get some heat or air from your HVAC system and no matter what blower setting you select, not much air comes out of the vents. You’d think something is plugged up or blocking the vents. SureTrack community member jecarr had a 2002 Dodge van in their shop that would blow air out of the vents. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member ericsautomotive and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2002 Dodge Ram Wagon B2500 5.9L

Title
Low airflow from vents, rewired blower motor connector.

Complaint
Customer complains of very little air flow output from defrost, floor or dash vents.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Checked air flow at various vents and little comes out at any blower setting. Washed out EVAP and heater core box with cleaning foam and water. Checked vacuum source to mode changing ability. The fresh air door seems to be stuck.

Has blower motor ever been replaced? If it has, is it wired correctly (polarity)?

Cause
The blower motor had been changed a couple months ago. The wires were spliced and were correct in relation to color, but the terminals in the hardshell connector were reversed! The motor was turning backwards! Thanks again, guys. We just switched the terminals around and it works.

Correction
Corrected terminals in blower motor connector, vehicle operates as it should.
