Title
DF033, Replaced Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor
Complaint
The customer states the engine hesitates when accelerating. The customer also states the check engine light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code DF033 – Pressure Upstream Of Turbo Out Of Range. Off idle, used the scan tool to monitor live data and found the exhaust back pressure sensor signal parameter intermittently dropped out. Performed a visual inspection of the exhaust back pressure sensor and found no obvious faults. With the key on, engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the exhaust back pressure sensor and found both were present. At idle, backprobed the exhaust back pressure sensor and monitored the sensor signal on a lab scope. The exhaust back pressure sensor signal observed on the lab scope was erratic. These test results verified the exhaust back pressure sensor was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the exhaust back pressure sensor, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly.
