Title
U1219, Replaced Parking Brake Switch
Complaint
The customer states that the brake warning light is on.
Cause
Confirmed customer’s complaint and found the brake warning light on. Connected a scan tool and found code U1219 – permanent fault automatic release of the electric parking brake. With the key on and the engine off, manually pressed and released the parking brake switch several times. Used the scan tool to monitor live data and found that the parking brake switch data and the pressing of the switch were not in sync. With the parking brake engaged, used live data to monitor wheel speed and parking brake status while trying to drive. Found that the data was accurate and the parking brake remained engaged. With the key on and the engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the parking brake switch and found that both were present. With the parking switch removed, used the multi-meter to measure the continuity of the parking brake switch while pressing the switch and found that the switch had no continuity. These test results verified that the parking brake switch was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the parking brake switch, cleared codes, performed a road test, and verified that the vehicle operated properly.
