Complaint
The customer states the check engine light is on.
Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code P0011 – A Camshaft Position – Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1) . At idle, used the scan tool to monitor live data and found the camshaft position sensor signal parameter was within specifications. Increased the engine speed to 1500 RPM, used the scan tool to observe the camshaft phase angle data while commanding the camshaft position actuator solenoid from 0% to 100% and found the actual camshaft phase angle followed the commanded camshaft phase angle. Upon further inspection of live data, found the powertrain control module did not have the correct calibration, which caused the code to set.
Correction
Reprogrammed the powertrain control module, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
