Title
P1476, Replaced EVAP Leak Detection Pump

Complaint
The customer states the check engine light is on.

Cause
Connected a scan tool and found code P1476 – Leakage Diagnostic Pump Clamped Tube. Performed a visual inspection of the evaporative emission (EVAP) system and found no obvious faults. Used the scan tool to seal the EVAP system by commanding the EVAP purge solenoid valve and EVAP vent solenoid closed. Connected a smoke machine to the system, induced smoke to check for leaks, and found that no smoke leaked from the EVAP system. Performed a visual inspection of the EVAP leak detection pump wiring harness and found no obvious faults. With the key on, engine off, used the scan tool to observe the EVAP leak detection pump parameter and found it did not operate the pump as commanded by the scan tool. Used a multi-meter to check for the presence of power and ground at the EVAP leak detection pump harness connector and found both battery power and ground were present. Used the multi-meter to test the continuity of the EVAP leak detection pump wiring harness and found it was operating properly. These test results verified the EVAP leak detection pump was faulty.

Correction
Replaced the EVAP leak detection pump, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
