What could be scarier on Halloween than your truck’s brakes not being able to bring you to a stop? SureTrack community member bclark1185 had a Chevrolet Silverado in their shop that had an ABS problem that made it hard to stop the truck. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member BrianR and others, they were able to resolve the issue.

The following Real Fix summarizes the interaction between them in the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L

Title
ABS activates when coming to a stop, replaced wheel bearing.

Complaint
When Client tries to come to a complete stop, the ABS pump will activate and the pedal will vibrate and the vehicle will be hard to completely stop.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
There are no Codes store in the system at all, and there is no wiring issues from the ABS Wheel Speed Sensors, and no wiring damage to the ABS Pump itself. I am almost sure that the ABS Pump is bad and needs to be replaced, but any advice to assure that I am not over looking anything would be a great help.

Loose wheel bearings can cause this too.

Cause
Turns out there was a passenger side wheel bearing that was extremely loose, and honestly surprised it did not come apart on the client. I thought I checked the right front, but it would seem I missed that part.

Correction
Replaced wheel bearing and ABS system now operates as expected and vehicle stops properly.
