Title
Engine Stalls, Replaced Power Steering Pump
Complaint
The customer states the engine stalls. The customer also states there is a grinding noise from the front passenger side.
Cause
Confirmed the customer’s complaint and found the engine intermittently stalled and there was a grinding noise present at the front passenger side of the vehicle. Performed a visual inspection of the engine compartment and found no obvious faults. With the key on, engine running, used an electronic stethoscope to isolate the grinding noise to the power steering pump. Intermittent seizing of the power steering pump caused the engine to stall. These tests verified the power steering pump was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the power steering pump and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer’s concern did not return.
