SureTrack Real Fix: Running Ruff, Ruff, Ruff!

exhaust gas recirculation valve, SureTrack Real Fixes

Ok, you’ve got a car in your shop that’s running like a dog but you can’t figure out what is wrong, what do you do? SureTrack community member cliffs1960 had a Chrysler 300 in their shop that had a misfire only on one side of the engine and a bad smell from the exhaust. They posed the question to the community, and while the solution wasn’t provided in the responses, with their help they were able to sniff out the issue and fix it.

The following Real Fix summarizes the interaction between them in the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2013 Chrysler 300 C 5.7L

Title
Misfire on ones side of engine, cleared exhaust blockage.

Complaint
Car running rough, no power. Has code P0300 and seems to be missing on cylinders 1,3,5 and 7. But the main misfire is on cylinders 1 and 5.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Swapped plugs and coils but did not help. Performed compression check and all is good. Fuel sample seemed fine, but the car smells bad and has smoke at idle out of passenger side tailpipe.

Cause
Upon further look at exhaust system, found dog food in exhaust pipe from driver side converter to muffler. Plugged off solid.

Correction
Cut exhaust system open and removed dog food; cleaned and repaired system. Car runs like new.
