Having your car out of alignment can cause many issues, one of which is tire contact with the body. Follow this Real Fix to see how a rubbing sound was diagnosed and corrected on this Volvo S90.

Complaint
The customer states a rubbing noise is heard from the vehicle.

Cause
Confirmed the customer’s complaint and heard a rubbing noise from the vehicle. Performed a road test and found when making hard left and right hand turns a rubbing noise is heard. Raised the vehicle on the lift, inspected the steering and front suspension for wear and loose components and found no faults. Inspected the inner fenders and found signs of contact with the tires. With the vehicle on the alignment machine, turned the wheels from lock to lock and found the tires made contact with the inner fenders. Performed a 4 wheel alignment, after correcting the toe setting turned the wheels from lock to lock and found the tires did not contact the inner fenders.

Correction
Adjusted the toe setting, aligned the wheels and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer’s concern did not return.
