A faulty fuel pump driver module (FPDM) certainly makes drivability difficult. As the optimal voltage is not being properly delivered to the vehicle’s fuel pump, this causes irregulated fuel pressure to the engine. Follow this real fix to see how a faulty FPDM caused the vehicle not to start with the check engine light on.

Title
P025A – Engine Does Not Start, Replaced Fuel Pump Driver Module
Complaint
The customer states the engine will not start. The customer also states the check engine light is on.
Cause
Confirmed the customer’s complaint and found the engine did not start. Connected a scan tool and found code P025A – Fuel Pump Module Control Circuit/Open. With the key on, engine off, used the scan tool to command the fuel pump on and found the pump was inoperative. With the key on, engine off, connected the test light across the fuel pump harness connector and used the scan tool to command the pump on. Observed the test light did not illuminate as the fuel pump was commanded on, which indicated there was a fault in the fuel pump harness or the fuel pump driver module. Used the multi-meter to check for the presence of a short or open in the fuel pump driver module to fuel pump wiring harness and found there were no shorts or opens present. Disconnected the fuel pump driver module connector, visually inspected the connector and terminals and found no obvious signs of damage. Used the multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the output of the fuel pump driver module while cranking the engine and found voltage was not present. These test results verified the fuel pump driver module was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the fuel pump driver module and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer’s concern did not return.
