Sometimes a positive test result can lead you to confusion over the cause of a problem. SureTrack community member Nhaugen had a Nissan Rogue in their shop that would blow the fuse to the blower motor multiple times. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member markbob, and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.
The following Real Fix summarizes the interaction between them in the community that led to the solution.
Vehicle
2015 Nissan Rogue S 2.5L
Title
Blower motor inoperable, replaced blower and fuses.
Complaint
Customer states that air doesn’t blow from air conditioning.
Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Confirmed that blower motor is inoperative. Found fuse #27 blown. HVAC housing frozen. Replaced fuse and tested. Blower motor ran for 2 min and blew again. Removed blower motor and tested with test light (incandescent light) fuse does not blow, full brilliance on light. Replaced blower motor. Ran for 20 min on road test and fuse 27 blew again and does after about 20 min of blower at high speed. 12.5 V at blower motor. Removed speed control and found circuit board to be corroded. Parts on order for tomorrow. Can I jumper control connector to blower motor to bypass for testing purposes?

Check fuse #17. Pull it out and check to make sure it’s not blown. The blower motor “shares” current from fuses 27 and 17. If you use a test light to check the fuses and one fuse is blown and the other one isn’t the test light will show power on both ends of the blown fuse because the good fuse is back-feeding voltage to the blown fuse. This is one of those times the test light will lead you in the wrong direction. The blower will run for a while with one fuse good but needs both to be good to run for long duration.
Cause
Checked fuse #17 as recommended and found it blown, do not know if original blower motor caused that.
Correction
Replaced speed control. Replaced fuse #17 and #27 and ran blower for more than 20 minutes and neither fuse blew again. Returned vehicle to customer and issue hasn’t returned.
