Many manufacturers began fitting DPF’s from 2009 onwards to reduce the amount of toxic particulates from the exhaust. However, many drivers face DPF issues when using their vehicles for short journeys only, causing a visit to their local shop. Take a look at this rough running X-Trail was fixed using live data.

P1435, Engine Runs Rough, Replaced Diesel Particulate Filter
Complaint
The customer states the engine runs rough. The customer also states the check engine light is on.
Cause
Confirmed the customer’s complaint and found the engine ran rough. Connected a scan tool and found code P1435 – DPF Regeneration Number of Regeneration Failures Exceeded. Viewed live scan tool data and found the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor data was above specifications. Raised the vehicle on a hoist, visually inspected the exhaust system for damage and found no faults. Removed the diesel particulate filter pressure pipes from the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor. Visually checked the diesel particulate filter pressure pipes for damage and blockages, but found no faults. Removed the diesel particulate filter from the exhaust system, inspected the filter and found it was blocked with particulate matter. These test results verified the diesel particulate filter was faulty.
Correction
Replaced the diesel particulate filter and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer’s concern did not return.
